Announcement: Oh, hello! Miriani has turned 19. Where does the time go? As our usual form of celebration, we'll be enabling Combat Day! What's that, you ask? Well, it's a day of out of character friendly competition in the form of space combat. Starship stores have a shiny free ship available for you to buy. You then hop into it, launch, and find somebody to fight to the death. This is an opportunity to practice your combat skills without fear of retaliation or financial ruin. Points are awarded for each opponent you destroy and points are lost when you yourself are destroyed. You also lose a point for every hour you don't fire a shot. You can see your current standing by typing COMBATDAY and see others' by typing @COMBATDAY. A delightfully confusing distinction (notice the @ sign in the second command). If you find yourself out of comms and thirsting for violence, you can type COMBATDAY to return for the day. Finally, because this is all crazy and out of character anyway, you're free to be out of character on all communicators. Just be sure you follow the other policies regarding the treatment of others. At the end of the day, the person with the most points will receive a prize somewhere between 'oh, that's neat I guess' and 'my, how fabulous'. Have fun!

Announcement: Greetings citizens of Whoville. You've got about five hours left to submit your gift requests. If you've waited this long, the Grinch is not going to be happy and come after your first born. So if you're submitting a gift request for the first time, please make it simple so the elves don't have to work overtime.

Announcement: Ho ho ho! We're getting down to the wire, kids. You've got just over two days left to request a gift from Santa and the elves. If you haven't done so yet, see message board post 101595 for rules and get your letters, wishes, and lab requests in by midnight GST on Wednesday. If you've had a gift request rejected, you've got until midnight GST on December 15 to get it fixed up and resubmitted. Anything sent past these deadlines will be rejected. Announcement: Ho ho ho! The time to request gifts from Santa is drawing to a close in about a week and a half. So if you haven't gotten your request in, now is the time to do it. As a reminder, we expect the rules outlined in message board post 101595 to be followed. This means no packages of any sort, if your item can be made in a tradesman lab, use it, and no adding to existing items.

Announcement: Happy Halloween, everyone! As is the case every year, Halloween is a special out of character day. Random masks will be forced upon you throughout the day, but if you prefer not to be subjected to rapid changes of identity, you have options! First, you can go to "Styx in the MUD" on Pax where you can keep your regular name. Second, you can go to the costume palace on Acosta and buy a custom costume. As long as you're wearing it, your mask will not change to a random one. If you have any other custom costumes such as those from previous costume contests, those costumes will also work. Don't forget to say "trick or treat" to receive some delicious candy! If you want to relive the thrill of going trick-or-treating, you can visit the various ships in the starship museum on Varoshna, knock on the display starships, and receive fabulous treats! Also, watch out for the ghost of Rory Hurricane! Finally, buy a candy bucket or bag on Acosta to store your treats, and make sure it's in your hand when you receive them! Anyone who is currently out of comms may return for the day by typing HALLOWEEN. Have fun!
